Chinese mainland slams Lai Ching-te for his latest secessionist remarks
A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Saturday slammed Taiwan's regional leader Lai Ching-te for his secessionist remarks made during a seminar to mark the so-called "Declaration of Formosan Self-salvation," saying that Lai's statements fully exposed his malicious secessionist motives.
Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said that Lai's remarks during the seminar on Thursday "once again exposed his true nature as the 'golden child of Taiwan independence.' This fully exposes his malicious intent to seek 'Taiwan independence' and instigate confrontation cross the Straits."
"Under the pretense of 'democracy and freedom,' he attempts to forcibly instill the 'Taiwan independence' ideology held by a minority onto the majority of people in Taiwan. This is a frequent tactic of Lai and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)," Chen said.
He warned that if Lai continued on this path, it would push Taiwan toward the danger of military conflict, bringing great disasters to the people of Taiwan and leaving them, along with future generations, to bear the consequences.
He pointed out that the so-called "Declaration of Formosan Self-salvation" which proposed many secessionist fallacies at the time, was an unadulterated "Taiwan independence declaration."
"The future of Taiwan lies in national reunification, and the well-being of Taiwan compatriots depends on national rejuvenation. Different systems are not an obstacle to reunification, still less an excuse for secession. It is hoped that the majority of Taiwan compatriots will truly understand the true meaning of democracy and freedom, recognize that 'green terror' is a violation of democracy and freedom, and recognize that 'Taiwan independence' secessionism is a threat to peace in the Taiwan Straits and their own security, and will firmly oppose the 'Taiwan independence' and interference by external forces," Chen underlined.
